Many Dutch parents who decide to live abroad for a brief or extended period would like to maintain their Dutch roots for themselves as well as their children. An important part of this heritage is the Dutch language. There are currently more than 200 Dutch schools and educational facilities worldwide and we are proud to be one of them.
De Petteflet offers lessons in Dutch language and culture as a supplement to local American education. Classes meet in North Denver, Colorado, on Wednesday afternoons for 2.5 hours. In addition we organize cultural days such as a traditional Sinterklaas celebration and a king’s day flea market (vrijmarkt), as well as an annual camping trip in August. By attending the Dutch classes, children will be prevented from falling behind in the Dutch language when returning to The Netherlands or Belgium or if they later decide to continue higher education in these countries.
De Petteflet receives an annual subsidy from the Ministry of Education, Culture, and Science. As a result, we are able to use up to date Dutch curriculum materials and the CITO pupil monitoring system that checks progress and assesses the quality of education. Our classes are taught by qualified Dutch teachers.
New students are required to take an initial assessment to determine the appropriate skill level. We require minimum language skills for each grade level so students are able to fully participate at that level. Please feel free to contact us for more information or to visit the school.
